Awareness is the Answer

A simple seeker of enlightenment was, or almost believed she was

Unprepared for the lesson that Spirit seemed intent on her learning;

That the pillars of form, consciousness, and force that provided

The basic structure, or the built environment, of The Tree of Life

Did not exist as anything more or less than mental concepts

To express the lived world of continuous experience and response,

That necessarily causes an expansion of consciousness, or awareness,

As a result of this evolutionary process.

But, she protested, consciousness rises.

Everything rises as it expands. Density of matter, or mind, moves up

As it reaches out.

It isn’t fair.

What isn’t fair.

I’ve spent countless hours learning to relate to specific centers

Of energy on the separate pillars of form, consciousness, and force.

And their specific interactions with other energies.

There are no other energies.

Archetypes as Symbols of Roles We Choose to Play

A simple seeker was meditating on Stage 16 of The Tree of Life.

Her chosen text calls this particular meditation, “I AM THAT I AM”.

Earlier meditations had as their focus, the question,. “Who am I”.

But, she kept asking herself – If I am that I am, then who or what?

You were never anything other than what you are, now.

Physical live serves to help us understand that simple reality.

Whatever we have experienced; whatever we now experience,

Whatever we will experience, the simple fact remains,

We are what we are, whomever we choose to be,

While we choose to be.

If I’m playing life as an actor, then why does it seem so real?

An actor is an actor regardless of the role she plays, but,

Each role we play; each relationship we experience,

Can serve to help us develop insight into why

We have chosen to live the roles, or archetypes we have,

But, we are not the roles or archetypes we express.

We simply are. an individual aspect or ray of Life.

Case closed.

Preparing for Spirit’s Arrival

A simple seeker was aware that she had much to learn about life,
even before she met her Spirit Guru. Could she even claim to have
met Him? She certainly didn’t see Him coming, and He wasn’t invited.
Or, was He. She did recall seeking psychic guidance from the universe,
but certainly not in the form (figuratively speaking) of a constant,
more or less, companion, teacher, and life coach.

No. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. If she could have known what
would or might happen, before it did, and if she … But, what’s the
point in pondering what might have been? Would it have changed
anything? Who knows?

Her life, up until, or at least preceding this unexpected event, had
left much to be desired, in the way of emotional, intellectual, and
spiritual satisfaction; even physical satisfaction, if she would have
allowed herself to focus on that category. She felt a powerful yearning
for a sense of meaning; a way of life that would bring spiritual
fulfillment and understanding of what life was all about and why.

This simple seeker had studied psychology, philosophy, and spiritual
teachings from many traditions, and was impressed by each and every
source of inspiration. She agreed with all of them, at least to some
extent, much to the annoyance of family and friends. They scolded her,
claiming that she must choose an exclusive belief system. They just
didn’t seem to understand that she didn’t want any formal and
exclusive system of thought. She was seeking an open-ended way of
understanding life.

Some form of structure was also very much desired, but how to balance
structured thought with resistance to form? She had been getting very
discouraged, but pretended to possess endless confidence in her way.
Fortunately, no one questioned her about what her way was.

Whenever she would question, and she seemed to need to question
everyone who claimed to know anything about how to live a good life
and why, or what a good life would look like. She was dismissed as
being critical of what she didn’t understand. That might have been true,
if they could only have explained to her what exactly they thought she
was critical of.

An even more severe response would be, and often was, that she was
holding on to her ego, which, some would try to convince her, was
an obstruction in her path to eternal bliss.

Ego as an obstruction was an insane idea, even to her simple mind.
Whatever would I do without an ego, she thought. It was what was
driving her search, or so she seemed to believe, at the time. She
would later come to think of her ego as a vehicle that instinctively
(or was it on autopilot?) was moving her on her way, her unique way
to understanding and living her life in physical reality.

Into all of the confusing thoughts and emotions struggling to dominate
each other, within her heart and mind, Spirit made a dramatic entry.
But, that’s another story, or was He already working with her, behind
the scenes, and if so, why?

Moods of Doubt

A simple seeker had slipped into one of her periodic
moods of doubt regarding her spirit teacher. Did He
even exist beyond her mind? But, what can exist
beyond one’s mind? And yet, He voiceless thoughts
came to her. But, how?

Perhaps if she had something to eat, or did a load
of laundry. Simple activities seemed to help her
focus, or protect her from seeming to need to know
what seemed beyond her possible potential to know.

And, yet, the challenge to understand how she could
hear seemingly voiceless thoughts, other than her
own, gave her no peace of mind.

There has to be a way that thoughts can …

E.S.P.

I know, but how does it work?

It doesn’t work at all, in the sense of needing
a physical connection. Do you hear your own
unspoken thoughts?

Yes, but they develop within my mind.

And you think your mind is separate from mine?

People don’t hear other people think.

Why?

It isn’t possible, except via body language.

Whenever we claim that something is not possible,
we close the door, not of possibility, but of
our awareness of it.

Is it as intuition?

No.

Then, please explain.

Intention to hear and to be heard.

But, why can you do it and I can’t.

You haven’t practiced.

How can I practice?

By first believing that you could develop
the ability. And then using it.

Then, it is as a skill?

Is hearing as a skill?

Not for me. It seems to be a function of being
human that is declining as I age, as is my
strength.

Perhaps your reduced hearing is a blessing
in disguise.

How can it be a blessing?

Without all the distractions of needless sounds
you are more able to listen to me.

There’s No Going Back

A simple seeker was meditating on the powerful symbolism
of the Tree of Life. It suddenly seemed to almost overpower
her with a feeling of intense devotion, when respect and
reverence were her usual spiritual limits.

Had they been self-imposed limits?

How could that possibly be?

Resistance.

To losing control?

Yes.

That’s possible, but, if it was then it would have been …

And still is?

But, it surely makes good sense to have at least a small
reservoir, or supply of …

Defensive mechanisms?

They do have survival value.

How can you explore the complexity of quality and intensity
of thoughts and emotions, and the ever-developing inter-
dependence between them, armed with …

Protection from them?

Not protection; distance.

How do they differ?

I explained that to you long ago. Once you begin to open
your mind, there’s no way you can close it.

Nakedness as a Cover-Up

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of ageless wisdom.

A simple seeker was enjoying a warm and misty afternoon
beneath gently moving foliage. The trees shaded her from
direct sunlight, or would have, if the bright sun had been
able to reach her North facing patio at this time of day.
Fortunately, for her, her neighbours across the hall would
be dealing with summer heat while she enjoyed the breeze.

That thought distracted her from a message the trees were
sending to her. Their branches and leaves were anticipating
rain and were quivering with delight at the expected
pleasure.

Now, moist air or the hint of moist air turned her attention
to the sky. She saw what the trees may not have. The wind
had picked up and was moving the clouds away, unless more
were going to replace them.

Meanwhile, Tarot as a Way of Life, by Karen Hamaker-Zondag,
seemed to need to be reconciled with itself. This Jungian
approach to tarot suggested that the 22 Major Arcana cards
represented a personal path of individuation.

But, our simple seeker still clung to the concept of psychic
integration and transcendence that the Kabbalah Tree of Life
seemed to explain in a way that appealed to her simplicity.

What card would seem to share your present state of mind?

Wow! I’m not an expert, yet.

Would that change the choice of card?

It might.

How?

For now, Seven, the Chariot, would seem to express my intent
to discover.

What?

What life is about and why.

And, if and when you become an expert …?

It’s not if, but when.

Then, when …?

Seventeen, The Star, although I do wish she didn’t expose
her nakedness. Clothes would express a sense of modesty.

Perhaps she wishes to express transparency.

But, to express it so obviously suggests that her nakedness
could be a cover-up in reverse; a pretense at transparency,
rather than the real thing.

Yes.

What does that mean?

Could it mean agreement?

Perhaps.

What else.

Perhaps, a pretense at agreement.

Yes.

When We’re Ready

A simple seeker clasped her head between her hands, to clear it from
the overwhelming visions that Spirit seemed to be flooding into her mind.

She needed a cup of warm water, not just to drink but also for something
to hold onto. Her mind was going into overload mode.

The concept of herself and everyone else as each being a Kabbalah-like
Tree of Life moving up a limitless Ladder of Light, with ever-merging
trees representing and reflecting the Universal and Sacred Triad of
Power, Wisdom, and Creativity, and then these three energy centres
merging together as Love and Compassion reaching down to everyone
reaching up, and everyone was/is reaching up to receive, whether or not
they were or are consciously aware of this pressure gradient type of
two-way energy flow.

Wow! It’s just too much for me to deal with.

Then don’t.

What does that mean?

We see what we have to see.

No. We have to block out what we’re not yet ready to deal with.

Yes, even knowing that someday …

Yes, someday for sure.

Choosing to do Nothing

A simple seeker was relaxing, or at least trying to relax
in her new patio recliner that seemed many sizes too big
for her to feel comfortable in, just yet. It reminded her
of the children’s story of The Three Ears and a young
intruder.

But, today was a glorious day in spite of, or perhaps
because of the sensation of feeling dry and yet breathing
in moist and fresh air, scented with leaves, flowers and
grass. She felt a sense of simple pleasure by her closeness
to one thousand shades of dripping green leaves, weighted
down by the soft but steadily falling rain, just beyond
her partially protected patio.

She noticed that raindrops seemed to slide from some leaves
more willingly than from some others. Why?

For many more reasons than one, perhaps.

How can that be?

Shapes, textures, angles of incline, location …

Yes, some are more exposed to …

A direct hit?

That would suggest that the rain was attacking.

And a victim mentality?

Where are you going with that?

Cause and effect is simply a sequential order
or events.

My lost tooth?

It wasn’t lost.

Why did you let it fall out?

It was ready to go. No need to blame me.

But, you could have prevented it.

Why would I interfere with Nature?

I do it all the time, in the garden.

You interfere with Nature’s way?

Only when her way differs from mine.

Why?

It’s my garden.

And, it’s your tooth.

But, I couldn’t save it without your help.

And I have nothing better to do with my energy
than to interfere with Nature in such a small,
inconsequential situation?

It isn’t small for me.

Was it a large tooth?

You know it was small.

And so was the issue.

What lesson could I learn from your behaviour?

What did I do?

Nothing.

Yes.

I Still Need to Believe

A simple seeker was meditating on the Kabbalah Tree of Life
and the many unique and yet mutually dependent energy centres
that comprise the Tree. Together they co-create an ever-higher
quality of consciousness for the benefit of all and to the one
that they each are part of.

It reminded her of the human body and its many interconnecting
and mutually supportive networks of nerves, arteries, veins,
lymph system, digestive tract, respiratory system, and the
elimination system which was designed with built-in recycling
throughout its length, so as to reabsorb all that could be
redirected to useful ends.

She had done completed primary studies in human physiology
in preparation for one of her many would-be lifetime careers
that never seemed to manifest, but almost did. For whatever
reason, each had become just one more anti-climax, in her life
dedicated to a search for stability.

There isn’t any.

Then why do I still need to believe …

What?

That some life work is waiting for me.

How many failures does it take?

I don’t know.

You could ask me.

But, how would I know that what you told me was so,
for me, even if it applied to everyone else?

Trust.

In what or whom?

In yourself to know what is so for you, at least
while it is.

Choosing Doesn’t Create Value

A simple seeker of enlightenment was meditating
on the Tarot Eight of cups, comparing different
interpretations. But, the emotional results were
always the same; a sense of excitement and distress
at one and the same time, or of one mood rapidly
Replacing the other in her mind. Why?

Are you asking me?

No. I was thinking to myself, but according to some,
it’s the same thing.

Is it?

No. I would know.

What does it mean to know?

I would have experience and I would have learned
from it.

Perhaps you have.

Regarding choosing change rather than it choosing me?

Yes.

But, I never choose lightly.

The choice would have no value if you did.

But, does choosing necessarily create value?

That depends.

On what?

On how much is at stake in the choice.

How can we know for sure?

There is no knowing for sure.

But, the choice must still be made?

The choice has been made, in your mind, whether
you dare to act on it or not.

Yes.

What does that mean?

You know it means that I accept that you’re
right, again.

Will that knowing determine your choice?

No.

Yes.
